Blog

August 2024

Welcome to the NKB blog!

I have neglected to start this blog for a while now due to life and other responsibilities that have kept me busy. Honestly, I haven't had the time or energy to commit to my company the way I wanted to this year but, my goal when I started this company was to help others and I still aim to do so. I may not have the time to build the business side of my company right now but, when it comes down to it, my company is really about the love of writing. What better way to help other writers than to build a community where honesty and vulnerability through writing is encouraged? So that's what I want to do with this blog. I want to be raw and vulnerable, and I want to see others read and learn and relate and heal.

I didn't know what I wanted to write here. I debated how to construct the perfect first blog piece with the right hook, the most interesting information, the perfect amount of humor and relatability. Luckily for me, my writing comes to me when I least expect it. Unfortunately, that is usually during the wee morning hours when I should be sleeping soundly. When inspiration strikes I must pursue it and so my sleep occasionally suffers for it. Hopefully, you do not. Hopefully, my writing doesn't prove dull and boring and instead, keeps you coming back for more. I have multiple pieces coming soon and I would hate to bore you to death before the piéce de résistance next year - my novel, Peace & Drowning.

You may have heard of the film, "It Ends With Us" starring Blake Lively. It's debut this weekend was highly anticipated and it was suggested that it may even rival the new Deadpool film, pitting Lively against her own husband. I myself couldn't wait to see the film. I decided to leave work after a grueling 12 hrs on Saturday and take myself to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner and then sat for the 9:45 pm showing. The next day, my coworkers were all eager to hear my thoughts on the film, many having read the book already. To their dismay, I couldn't say that I loved it. My grim expression had them questioning the film's quality. In truth, it was a good film. The cinematography and music were beautifully intertwined and the beautiful cast made for a visually appealing experience. Unfortunately, the film is based on a book that discusses the cycle of domestic violence and that made it very hard for me to like it. For hours after the film ended, I cried and pondered why. In the past few days, through some serious introspection, I have written a review of sorts. Many may not even consider it a review but, it is mine. That is why it is here, on my personal blog, and not on Fandango or IMDB or some other mainstream review site. So, here is my raw, vulnerable review of "It Ends With Us."

If we're being vulnerable here...a picture of me calming myself down after the film. It's ok to not be ok.
